Microplastics — They're Already Inside Us.

Plastic isn't just in our oceans, food packaging, and water bottles anymore. Researchers are detecting tiny plastic particles called microplastics in the human body—including blood, lungs, reproductive tissues, and other organs. Research has even raised concerns about exposure beginning before birth.

What makes this especially concerning is where these particles may be able to travel. Research suggests that extremely small plastic particles can cross biological barriers, including the blood-brain barrier, raising important questions about inflammation, cellular stress, and what decades of exposure could mean for our long-term health.

In Episode 6 of Living Sicker. Aging Faster. Dying Younger., Dr. Christopher Thoma takes a closer look at microplastics, where our exposure comes from, and what the emerging research is telling us. We can't completely eliminate plastic from modern life—but understanding our exposure gives us an opportunity to start reducing it.
